Dairy trans fats may not pose the same health risk

So, here's some reassuring news for dairy lovers: a review of 22 studies found that naturally occurring trans fats in milk, butter and cheese were not linked to a higher risk of heart disease or type 2 diabetes. In ten controlled trials, these fats did not meaningfully change participants' blood lipid levels. Twelve long-term studies likewise found no increased risk of heart disease, stroke, cardiovascular death or type 2 diabetes. The findings suggest that natural dairy trans fats behave differently from industrial trans fats, which are strongly associated with heart disease.
