Next UK banknotes to feature barn owls, bumblebees, puffins and hedgehogs

So: the Bank of England has chosen four much-loved wild animals for the next generation of UK banknotes - a buff-tailed bumblebee, a barn owl, a European hedgehog and an Atlantic puffin. Nearly half a million people took part in the consultation, which invited the public to vote for their favourite creatures. The animals will appear on the £5, £10, £20 and £50 notes, although their exact placement is still to be decided, and King Charles will remain on the other side. The new designs will take several years to develop, and the Bank says the wildlife imagery will also help strengthen banknote security.
