Scientists discover a freshwater predator that swam like an eel and had limbs

So, meet Garamaudo bauciensis, a 2.5-metre-long mosasaur that lived in what is now France around 84 million years ago. Unlike better-known mosasaurs, it had limbs suited to walking and a pelvis firmly connected to its spine, yet its long, narrow body likely rippled through the water like an eel. Fossils from a freshwater lake suggest it may have hunted small fish, reptiles or amphibians, perhaps striking from a shallow-water ambush.
