Endangered leopard shark filmed in Samoan waters for the first time

A National Geographic team captured the first verified video of a leopard shark, also known as a zebra shark, in Samoan waters. The surprising sighting came during the first deployment in Samoa of a baited underwater camera that records marine life without divers. Leopard sharks are endangered worldwide and rarely documented in this part of the Pacific, making the footage a valuable clue about where the species lives. National Geographic Pristine Seas has helped establish 28 marine reserves and protect more than 2.5 million square miles of ocean.
