Sex-changing mouse clones may help save endangered species

So, researchers have used a CRISPR-based method to remove the Y chromosome from cloned male mouse embryos, producing healthy, fertile female mice. This means a single male donor can give rise to both male and female clones, which then bred and produced offspring. The breakthrough could one day help conservationists create breeding pairs when only a few animals remain. There are important limits, though: many mammals cannot reproduce with just one X chromosome, so more work is needed before the method could help a wider range of species.
