A hidden magnetic web above the Sun

So, even the Sun’s quiet regions are threaded with a surprisingly intricate magnetic web. High above Earth, the balloon-borne Sunrise-III observatory captured slender magnetic structures in the Sun’s atmosphere, along with magnetic fields in jets called spicules. Computer simulations suggest that movements on the solar surface twist magnetic field lines into these fine threads. These observations offer fresh clues to how magnetic energy travels upward and helps heat the solar atmosphere.
